Denominational division has made it seem that everyone is free to choose the doctrine that best suits them, and in doing so, they have willfully ignored the words of Paul and others. “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1 Corinthians 1:10) “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:6) “Is Christ divided?” (1 Corinthians 1:13)
Then, what is wrong? We know that Jesus did not teach conflicting versions of the gospel. Truth is constant, it never changes. It cannot be a multiple-choice decision. What was true in Jesus’ day is still true today. Truth is one. If two churches have opposing views, logic demands that one view is wrong, and possibly both. Is it wrong to hope that all people who call Jesus Lord would settle their differences by God’s instruction, and lift up one mighty voice to the glory of our heavenly Father and his holy son Jesus?
Jesus was not well received in many of the synagogues scattered throughout the land. They were all Jewish; they all claimed to believe and follow the teaching of the law and the prophets. But the majority of them didn’t know the son of God, even though he came exactly as the prophets said he would. The revealing power of the words he spoke offended the religious establishment. Either they had to admit their short coming, or they had to discredit Jesus. Most chose the latter. The church wasn’t in the building, it was the same place it’s always been, in the hearts of God’s people.
Over the past fifty years, I have listened to many preachers in person, by TV, radio, and printed page. Seldom do I ever hear anything taught by the revelation of the spirit. Instead, they only see the fulfilling of God’s word for the future. Nothing yet, but soon now. There are many things I would like to share with you, but it can’t all be done in one letter, so I will choose one subject that I have never heard explained with understanding. It’s always for the future, they say.
The apostle John wrote these words. “And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.” (Revelation 13:1)
John stood apart from the sea, in spirit, and looked out over the sea of humanity, “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” (Revelation 17:15) John saw the beastly nature of man raise its ugly head, the same spirit that crucified Jesus, which came from the heart of carnal man. As Jesus said, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.” (Matthew 15:19)
John tells us that, “the seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.” (Revelation 17:9) Natural mountains like we often hear it taught? No! But as Paul taught. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12) The place where the woman sits, the great false church, the whore who sells herself to the world. She takes the name of Christ, and says in her heart, “I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.” (Revelation 18:7) But what is God’s answer to the unfaithful church? “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.” (Revelation 3:17) Blind to the truth of God’s word, because the mysteries of his word “are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14)
The false church is not just one church name, but it’s a gathering of individuals from all walks of life who take the name of Christ as their Lord, but are not faithful to his word. A scattered few hear and obey.
The Lord awakened my spirit when I was 26 years old. For the past forty-nine years, by his mercy, I have looked into revelations that are hid from the world with all its knowledge. Most of the time when church members find scripture that they don’t understand, they reach for a commentary instead of searching their Bible. And they take the opinion of the writer of the commentary above the writers of God’s word. If only they would take time to study the word of God and pray for guidance, they would learn that every question raised in the scripture also has an answer in the scripture.
Remember this, as long as a person only sees the word of God through the eyes of worldly teaching, it is a barrier that prevents them from looking into the glorious light of “the Spirit of truth.” Same word, but so much brighter.
