Some toss around the big bang theory as though they know for sure it happened. Nobody saw it! Nobody heard it! No hands were there to record the event. Scientists think they have a partial answer because of what they see in their telescopes and mathematics. But nothing exists by itself. Before you were born, the world, universe, flowers, water, even God, did not exist in your being. You did not exist. Only after you were born did these things come into being.
It’s the same with the kingdom of God; it doesn’t exist in your being until you are born of the Holy Spirit. I don’t know the first thing about how the universe was created; I wasn’t there, and the writers of God’s word don’t go into detail. But they did go into great detail about the gospel and the kingdom of God. I was born again while this is taking place. I see it, I hear it, I understand it!
I can’t explain the wind to you. It moves things, it touches your face, it carries the sweet fragrance of flowers, but you can’t see it. How do you know it exists? When a breeze blows past us, where does it go? Other air must fill the space it left, but how do you know it does? You breathe in air every minute of your life without ever seeing it. Cut it off and you will die. We live by the spirit of life, cut it off and you die. You can’t see spirit any more than you can the wind; does this mean they don’t exist?
Many are so exalted in themselves with all their earthly knowledge and understanding, they completely overlook the simplicity that is in Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3)
The word “begin” means “to come into being.” Atomic power has always been in the universe, but it only came into being when it was discovered. God has always been, but he comes into being when he is discovered. If atomic power had never been discovered would this mean it isn’t in the universe? Many never discover their creator, does this mean he isn’t God?
The word was made flesh so we could hear from one who spoke on our level. He walked and talked as we do, he ate, he slept, he was a common man. Possessing little of this world’s goods yet made heir of all things. He taught us one on one, eye to eye, from his spirit to ours. People who mock Jesus and his teaching do so to their destruction, but this kind of hatred is the same spirit that caused Jesus to be crucified.
In the beginning of the heaven and the earth. In the beginning of mankind. In the beginning of these things in no way suggests the beginning of God. “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18) Eternal means without beginning or ending.
“And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.” (Hebrews 5:9)
Saying that God spoke a thing into being is the same as saying God created. The light of his word could never shine forth in our soul unless he caused it to. Many have the word but the light (understanding) of the word will not shine until our Lord declares it, saying in your soul and mine let there be light. Not in an audible voice for our natural ears but in the spirit.
People before Jesus’ time had no problem believing that the prophets heard from God. When Moses came down from the mountain after forty days with God, his face shone with the glory of God so that the people could not look upon him.
When Elijah prayed, God sent fire from heaven. He closed up the heavens so that it didn’t rain for 3 ½ years, and he sent rain when Elijah asked. He raised the dead and many more such miracles.
The prophets of God had an open heart and mind to the will of God. This direct fellowship was confirmed by many signs and miracles, just as Jesus did. When they spoke, it came to pass. This is why Jesus said, think not that I am come to destroy them, but to fulfill their words. Their words were the voice of God, just as Jesus is the word.
