Earlier today I was thinking of eternity and what it means to us. It has no beginning and no ending. Time has always been. Time and space are two things that the best minds in the world can’t explain. If space could end, what stopped it? If there could be a barrier, what would be on the other side of it?
You and I did not exist in the endless ages of the past. Then one day, our eternal God called us out of the empty darkness of time and gave us the breath of life. He had prepared a beautiful planet for us to spend our days. But like all things that thankless mankind is involved with, they have corrupted the earth. The air, land, and water are spoiled, and the riches are exploited for personal gain.
But worst of all, earth’s inhabitants have decided to chart their own course. Today is exactly as it was in the day of Noah, God’s servant.
“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth.” (Genesis 6:5-7)
Just as it was in that day, it will most certainly be in our day. I don’t pretend to know when or how it will come but we do know that all things temporal have an end. We don’t want to go back into that empty darkness that we came out of. Never knowing that for a while we were on this earth. No recall of anything. Never again throughout the endless ages will we pass by this way again.
But, I would not leave you without hope; there is a way made for us. And we know that it is written in the pages of the book of life.
