We are the created, God is the creator. His wisdom and understanding are perfect. There is none higher, his power is absolute. Nothing escapes his all-seeing eye.
Some people try to find a legitimate reason to question God’s authority, saying, “if he is a loving God, why does he allow bad things to happen?” Or, as some foolishly boast, “why would I want to serve a God that is unfair and vindictive?”
The apostle Paul left no room for rebuttal when he wrote these words. “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?” (Romans 9:20)
Why do innocent little children die in storms, school shootings, and highway accidents? It’s heartbreaking to learn of these things and we grieve for the little ones and their families. But what about the 63 million babies that have been murdered by abortion doctors. Babies that kick and move in their mother’s womb, and suck their thumb, and are alive in every way. Because some abortions are botched, the baby is born alive, and left unattended until it dies. 63 million little boys and girls that will never run and play and sing or feel a refreshing breeze and the warm sunshine. Our high court is OK with this, and the large majority of U.S. citizens have hardened their hearts and closed their minds to the mass murder of these little ones.
But as a nation, we want to draw a line. Only the ones who nobody cares about should be killed. Does this nation of unbelievers and lukewarm churches think that this horrible sin goes unnoticed by almighty God? Here is his answer. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Gal 6:7) If a nation sows seeds of death, it can only reap death; sometimes death of the one we love most. Sin and ungodliness of mankind are the guilty perpetrators of all sorrow. How foolish to point a finger at God for our sins and disrespect. We have a choice, and most have chosen evil. Nothing good can come from evil.
Adam and Eve first sinned against God by allowing the lust of the flesh to tempt them and bring about their fall. But even then, God in his mercy made a way for them and all that followed to be forgiven through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Not because God owed us an explanation or forgiveness, but because he loved us. And what has mankind done with God’s offer of mercy? They have mocked and ignored his word. They have gone after every lust of the flesh. Money and pleasures have become their idols. They stop their ears and close their eyes to the judgment of their creator. And some, in their arrogant pride, try to judge God. Set yourself in array against his mighty power and you can be sure of one thing, you will lose.
Why does evil run rampant throughout the world? Because the hearts of mankind are more wicked today than when these next words were written. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” (Genesis 6:5-6) Take away righteousness and only evil is left.
But why are the few faithful servants caught up in the sufferings of this sinful world? Because God’s judgment is as an endless fire, consuming the wicked and purifying the righteous. There was never a promise made that faithful followers of Christ would be free from trouble as long as they remain in the flesh. But we are told that we should expect hardship and suffering, even as Christ suffered for us. But Jesus said to us, “be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” (Revelation 2:10)
Saying that you don’t need God is like saying that you don’t need to breathe. Without him there can be no life. “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1)
When trials come our way, Jesus said, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28)
Only when your understanding is opened by the “Spirit of truth” will you see the world as it really is. And when we are made partakers of the truth of God’s word, “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” (1 John 5:19)
When things are going well, most people never pause and give God thanks, but they take credit themselves for all that they have gained. But when things fall apart, they question God, saying in their heart, why did you let this happen to me?
Why are sin and evil in the world? Because the inhabitants of the earth follow after sin and evil. They had rather partake of pleasures and fulfill the desires of the flesh, than to seek God. Money and what it will buy keeps people preoccupied. They disregard the words of Jesus when he said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:19-20) We lay up treasures in heaven by doing God’s will on earth.
Why are people confused and divided in religion? Again, it’s because they refuse to read and obey God’s word, which plainly says that we should all speak the same thing and not be divided. (1 Corinthians 1:10) Instead of teaching the undefiled doctrine of Christ, they make it corrupt by mixing in the commandments of men. (Matthew 15:8-9)
Personal greed, lust, hatred, theft, murder, adultery, homosexuality, lying, cheating, drunkenness, and any other unclean and hateful thing is what the world chooses to follow. And then they have the audacity to blame God when they reap the fruits of their evil lifestyle. Evil can only bring forth evil. Mankind fully indulges in the filth of the world, but they don’t take any responsibility for their actions. To hear them tell it, it’s all God’s fault when bad things happen.
Why should you turn to God? Because, foolish man or woman, he holds your short life in his hand. The air you breathe and the heart beating in your chest are on loan from the Lord. Either one can end your life in an instant. Then you will realize that there is no help because all you’ve ever done is mock God and trample his word under your feet. Like it or not, almighty God will have the final word; your voice will not be heard. You will bow to his word. Even after your arrogant mockery, the Lord has provided a path of escape from his anger and final judgment. His name is Jesus Christ, the son of the living God. Regardless of what you think, he’s your only hope.
