Resurrection of the dead
No mortal body of flesh is resurrected upon death, and neither is any soul that is dead to the presence of God. Only the spirit that is awakened when it hears the spiritual voice of Jesus teaching the holy word in our Bible is resurrected.
Where does a sinner go upon death?
If we die a sinner, we cease to exist. Our soul goes back into oblivion, erased from God’s presence forever without end. Our short span of time on this earth is forgotten; the dead know not anything.
Death is final!
Death is final! Let’s say you go through life, and you don’t seek God. Instead, you fill your life with earthly cares and pleasures. You will still have sorrows and disappointments. You will still fear death. There is no guarantee you will live any certain length of time. Then you die. No hope, everlasting separation from hope. Forever and forever, without end…
In life, we all experience sorrow, disappointment, and the fear of death. However, when those who live their lives focused on earthly desires die, death is final and they are forever separated from hope of anything beyond what this life offers. When those who seek God from a pure heart die, their hope for life eternal is realized and they remain forever in the presence of the Lord.
Sorrowing for those who died
Why should we not sorrow for those that are gone? “And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” (Matthew 27:52-53)
Dead saints coming out of the graves
The spiritual bodies of the saints that slept in the graves with the hope of Jesus in their heart came out of the graves after Jesus’s resurrection. Now, our spiritual bodies no longer wait in the grave but are taken to be with the Lord “in the twinkling of an eye.”
One taken and one left
The pairs mentioned in Luke 17:34-36 (two men in one bed, two women grinding, two men in the field) symbolize the earthly flesh and the heavenly spirit that coexists within each of us. The flesh and the spirit remain together until death separates them.
